A LITTLE MORE ABOUT LIZ
Liz grew up in a small country church alongside three brothers north of Peoria. Even while quietly playing tic tac toe in the pews every Sunday, her faith began to take root. She studied agricultural communications at the University of Illinois, where she met her now-husband Ben. They now have two children – Oliver and Mabel – and live near Liz’s family’s farm in Edelstein. She worked in corporate marketing in the agriculture industry for nearly 11 years before joining the team at Richwoods. Liz also has a freelance photography and videography business capturing life and work on the farm.

Favorite Movie: Secretariat

Favorite TV Show: The Andy Griffith Show (thanks to my husband)

Favorite Childhood Possession: Teddy – a stuffed bear that I believe I received at birth because he was always around. I took him on many vacations.  He has been left at several hotels through the years, and I even received a ransom note for his return (from a family friend).

Dream Vacation: I do not care. The right people, a clear schedule, outdoor activities, and low cost … I’m in.

Movie or TV title that best describes your life: “Eat, Pray, Love”

If you had to eat one food at every meal going forward, what would it be? Sushi

How do you like your coffee? Yes. All the ways. Iced, Hot, Black, Cream, Fancy, Decaf.  Just give it to me. If you were going to surprise me with a drink though, you can’t go wrong with an Oatmilk Latte.

Workplace: Self-Employed Home Flipper

How long have you attended Richwoods?: 3 years, Sept 2025!

If you had to eat one food for every meal going forward, what would it be?: Chipotle Burrito

Movie, tv show or book that describes your life: Rocky

Tell us more: Married to Holly Brooks. Three kids: Kinsey, Kalei, and Keith. Get excited about traveling, trying new restaurants, and hanging out with other guys around a campfire. Fitness: running, biking, rucking, MMA, etc. Enjoy a quality cup of coffee and a good book.

Workplace: I’m in my 26th year (2024/2025) working in the Princeville School District.  I taught first grade for 15 years and have spent the last 11 years teaching 7th and 8th grade social studies.  In addition, I coached baseball for 11 years when I first started.  I gave that up and now coach cross-country and track.

How long have you attended Richwoods?: We have attended Richwoods for almost 12 years now.

If you had to eat one food for every meal going forward, what would it be?: I think it would probably be pizza. There are lots of variations and options to pick from, so I think it would be the food I’m least likely to get tired of.

Movie, tv show or book that describes your life:This is a tough question because I have a hard time separating the title alone from the actual movie. That said, I found a movie titled, “The Art of Getting By.” I’ve never seen it and I don’t know what it’s about, but the title alone seems appropriate for how I feel many days. 🙂

Tell us more: My wife, Hilary, and I have been married 21 years. We met when she started teaching in Princeville three years after I began there. We have four kids: Parker (in his first year at Grand Canyon University); Gabby (junior in HS); Oliver (sophomore in HS); and Reese (5th grade). A fair amount of our schedules involve working around their various activities.

At church, you can often find me involved with rStudents and rKids. I’ve seen my spiritual life grow as I’ve gotten more involved at church. Getting to know the kids and their families, as well as the fellowship that comes along with serving alongside others has been a blessing.

In terms of hobbies and interests, I enjoy watching “our shows” with Hilary. I am a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, specifically, and baseball in general. One of my favorite places to be is at a ballgame. Though I don’t do it nearly enough, I get energized and refreshed when I go on walks. I like Marvel comics and the movies and TV shows based on them. I enjoy playing games of almost any kind.

My life and schedule are usually full enough that I appreciate being at home with my family as much as anything.

Favorite Books: I am a shameless bookworm, so various books, across all different genres, hold a piece of my heart. I am currently sweet on The Women and The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, but The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris and Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens will always be memorable reads for me. About 10 years ago, Shauna Niequist rocked my world and sent me on a new path with her book, Present Over Perfect. And frankly, as far as I am concerned, it will never be the wrong day to read Charlotte’s Web out loud to my kids all over again.

Favorite Childhood Possession: “Kee Kee,” my (now threadbare) baby blankie

Favorite TV Show: Friends, Ted Lasso and Jeopardy!

Favorite Movie: The Holiday

If you had to eat one food at every meal going forward, what would it be? Hmmm… Fuji Apples or ALL THE VEGETABLES!

Dream Vacation: Amalfi Coast of Italy

Disney Spirit Character: Belle, of course! We both love the color yellow, read loads of books and have a knack for finding beauty in the most beastly circumstances.

Movie or TV title that best describes your life: Would it be wrong to say The Hunger Games? Asking for a friend. Haha!

How do you like your coffee? Never empty! Coffee and kindness are essentials.

A little more about Cortney:

Cortney was born and raised in Northern California, and although she misses the Pacific Ocean, abundant fresh produce, and the San Francisco Giants, she has found a happy home for herself right here in Central Illinois. She and her husband, Matt, have been blessed with three amazing children, Kaiden (22,) Kaylie (16) and Calum (12.) Cortney’s greatest calling has been raising her unique kiddos however, for the past 8 years she has found immense joy teaching preschool. Cortney and Matt share an entrepreneurial spirit; together they thrive as local restaurateurs. In her free time, Cortney loves to drink coffee, do yoga, read a good book, and snuggle in a cozy blanket with her puppy, Clara Elizabeth. Likewise, Cortney likes to take long walks in the sunshine and cook yummy, nourishing meals for her family. Cortney and her crew like to indulge in musical theatre, enjoy live music and hit sporting events every chance they get! Cortney revels in a good adventure; she feels alive exploring any town, city or country that she has never been to before. If you’re looking for Cortney around Richwoods, keep your eye on the kids, she can almost always be found amongst them.

A little more about Allie:

I grew up in the church, but I really began following Jesus when I was in high school. I spent my college years leaning into ministry with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship while I got my degree. My husband Brian and I got married after graduation, and we eventually settled here in Peoria. We had our son Joshua in 2014, and our daughter Abbie arrived in 2017. Our family came to Richwoods after many years at our previous church in the summer of 2023. After spending a decade being a full-time stay at home mom, I received my certification in proofreading late 2023 and began working from home on book manuscripts, medical documents, and web content. With my wiring for details and structure, this was a great fit for me from the start, and I’m so excited to see how I can use these skills at Richwoods in my admin role. It’s a joy to see how there’s a place for everyone in the body to use their unique gifts, and I’m thankful to be able to serve my church family with what God gave me!

A little more about Justine:

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago with my ten siblings, parents, and dachshund – life was crazy to say the least. I went to college in Minnesota where I got my degree in Special Education and Academic Behavioral Strategy, and I also met my amazing husband there :). I worked as a teacher in a private Christian school before relocating to Peoria in 2023! I love spending time with my bestie/husband, big family (I’m pretty sure my baby on the way is going to be grandchild #36), reading, and meeting new people!

How do you like your coffee? I’ll drink almost any roast of coffee as long as it is black.

A little more about Brandon:

Brandon joined the Richwoods team in January 2024 after spending the previous 18 months in Colorado and growing up in Southern California. Brandon sensed a called to ministry shortly after giving his life to Christ at 13. But after graduating with a Bachelor’s in Christian Ministries, God directed Brandon to several years of work at a small college athletic department where Brandon ran communications efforts, kept statistics, and delivered public addressing and play-by-play announcing for several sports. Brandon and his wife, Briana, refocused on their call to ministry in 2020 and he is ecstatic to champion Richwoods’ calling to the Journey of Discipleship. Brandon has studied discipleship and spiritual formation for nearly a decade and also has several years of experience as a certified spiritual director through the Institute for Spiritual Formation at Talbot School of Theology.

Brandon met his wife Briana at Biola University and they have a son named Grayson. Brandon enjoys reading good books, watching sports, keeping an exercise routine, and extending hospitality to others. As a family, the Taylors love cooking, having extended conversations with friends and family, and doing fun family activities (like going to playgrounds and all things trucks, thanks to Grayson!).

A little more about Teresa:

I have been going to Richwoods for over 25 years. I started at the Terra Vista location when there were only 65 members and orange pews. I did restaurant management for 25 years and then retail management for 18. I adopted two children through foster care who are now adults and have 2 grandchildren, 4 and 7. I love to read and take long walks (when the weather is nice, when it isn’t I can quickly become a couch potato). I love to go to new places and experience different cultures.

Workplace: I work at Design Systems. It is a machine shop. We build specialized machines and fixtures.

How long have you attended Richwoods?: I have been attending RCC for about six years.

If you had to eat one food for every meal going forward, what would it be?: I guess it would have to be hamburgers.

Movie, tv show or book that describes your life:I can’t say that I know a book or movie that would describe my life necessarily because I think I live a pretty boring life but I love all tools for working and I love the great outdoors so I would say my favorite shows were Tool Time and Outdoor Man with Tim Allen.

I have been married for 34 years and have two daughters, who are married, one son and two grandchildren and I am most happy spending time with my family!
