Looking Forward

Looking Forward

futureIt’s that time of year when we look forward and backward and get calendar whiplash.  Some of us are anxious to close out a year of difficulty, although I’m not sure there is anything magical about a new year and I have yet to prove that hardship is limited to a calendar. 🙂
However, I do think it’s healthy for us to have solid footings as we step into 2016. At Richwoods we want our people to live a vibrant life in Christ — to live in honest pursuit of the promise offered to us through the life and work of Jesus.
What Christ promises us is not a life of perfection and ease, but a way of life — a viewpoint from which we can lean into God’s goodness and grace while life continues to throw curve balls at us.  In John 15-17, Jesus promises hardship for those who follow him, but he also promises a connection with the Father and help from the Spirit so we might experience peace and rest in the midst of difficulty.
My prayer for us at Richwoods is that this next year we will run hard after God and His things, to pursue this abundant life with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength.  And as we do so, that God’s Spirit would pour unmeasurable amounts of peace and rest on us in such a way that those who are far from God take notice and likewise find life in Christ.

Our budgets are set on a calendar year, submitted by staff and approved by the Elders of Richwoods.  Our ability to meet the needs of the people, provide programs, offer ministry opportunities, and so on, are all contingent on the faithful and generous giving of the people who call Richwoods their church home.  As a church we do not take annual pledges to set a budget but we work off of our historical giving and attendance patterns to project a conservative budget.
